Winter Update - 1/17/2009
Just thought I'd drop a post in to let everyone know that I'm still around despite this ridiculous winter weather. In Chicago we've had over 22 measurable snowfalls so far this winter. We purchased snow tires for my wife's 3-series this winter and it looks like we picked the right winter to do it. After driving her car with these tires on it, I don't see how anyone can not get snow-specific tires for their vehicle. These tires have turned her car into a fleet-footed snowmobile. If you have remotely sport-biased tires on your car and live anywhere in the snowbelt, do yourself a favor and get some snow tires. They could save your life!
I've been focusing most of my hobby energy into golf this winter, as some of you know. I did get down to Florida for a week over New Year's but couldn't find a pull anywhere around Naples. I did play a couple rounds of golf there, where I discovered that my hours of practice on the mats here in Chicago spawned a new habit of hitting very fat shots. From now on I'll put a little patch of snow behind the ball on the mats. If the snow disappears after a shot, I'll know that I hit it fat.
Just recently I've been starting to get the itch for slalom skiing again. The days are getting longer and ski school is just 8 or so weeks away. It's been so ridiculously cold here with such constant snowfall that it's starting to get to me. I'm a big fan of the snow and the changing seasons, etc., but at this point, I'm done. Come on spring.
